Frequently Asked Questions
What is the VIN?
VIN is the "Vehicle Identification Number." On Sea-Doo and Polaris, the VIN in the ECU matches the VIN on the hull. Yamaha and Kawasaki do not match.
You can find the VIN for the ECU inside your Maptuner unit — click My Vehicles and you will see the VIN there.
Example formats: Yamaha —

Do you have a tune for my setup?
Please visit the Tuning Library — we have listed all parts required for every available tune. If you don't find your setup, send us an email with your complete setup and we will get back to you.
I purchased a unit that already has a tune. How do I access it?
You do not need a new license or the original license code. We can move the vehicle between Maptuner accounts — we just need the vehicle ID.
If you don't have a Maptuner account we can create one for you. We need your email and the vehicle's Maptuner ID.

I'm selling a unit with a tune. Can I transfer the license to my new unit?
No. The right to access the library of tunes goes with the vehicle, not the owner.
Can my friend and I use the same Maptuner?
Yes. A Maptuner X can be used on an unlimited number of customer accounts. It can also contain an almost unlimited number of vehicles and tunes.
The tune says "X" RPM but my ski only hits "Y" RPM — why?
The tune name includes the RPM at which the rev limiter cuts ignition to protect the engine. The actual target RPM — where we want the engine to run at WOT — is a couple hundred RPM lower. This keeps the engine from cutting in and out, resulting in a higher top speed.
What fuel do I need?
Unless the tune specifically indicates a fuel type, it is intended to be used with 93–95 octane or higher.
What if I can't get the right fuel on the water?
The PWC's knock sensor will detect lower-grade fuel and reduce spark advance, resulting in lower performance. Running for extended periods on lower octane fuel is not recommended, but if you need to use it for a few hours it is okay.
Do OEM features still work after installing a tune? (learner key, touring mode, cruise, eco, break-in)
Yes. Some tunes may have certain features cancelled, but you can contact us to request those features be re-enabled in any tune.
How does a tune affect fuel economy?
If you operate the unit at the same RPM as before the tune, fuel economy remains the same. If you operate above that RPM it will consume significantly more fuel. At some level of modifications, engines will consume more fuel than OEM setups.
Does my license cover one tune or the full library?
Your license gives you unlimited access to the complete library of tunes for your vehicle.
Exceptions: SLR License only grants access to speed limiter removal tunes. Rental License only grants access to rental tunes.

When I read fault codes on my Yamaha I get five codes I can't erase.
This happens when you use the programming cable to read diagnostic codes — it doesn't work because connecting the programming cable removes the ECU's connection to those sensors. Fault codes must be read and cleared with the diagnostic cable.
Do I need to remove both iBR fuses? I only have one.
Removal of the iBR fuses is only required on 2016 and 2017 Sea-Doo 300 models. It is not necessary on any units with a single iBR fuse.
Troubleshooting
Common Problems
Unit already registered under a different username or system
Usually happens when someone purchased a unit that already had a tune. We need the current owner's Maptuner account username — or if they don't have an account, their email so we can create one.
PC can't detect the Maptuner
This is a driver recognition issue. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the software as administrator, and/or use a different USB port. If the problem persists, contact us.
ECU is locked
Usually a Sea-Doo issue caused by a change to one of the modules on the vehicle's CAN bus. Also happens when the Maptuner detects unexpected activity (wrong ECU, cloned ECU, updated ECU software, etc.).
We need the ECU VIN or ID to check what happened and fix the problem.

Error 0214 — can't program Sea-Doo
Communication issue between the Maptuner X and the ECU. Could be in the ECU, harness, battery, Maptuner cable, or the Maptuner unit itself. Usually a problem on the ski side.
Is the Maptuner connected to the correct unit?
The customer may be connected to a different unit, something may have changed in the unit (see "ECU is locked"), the wrong cable may be in use, or there may be a Maptuner firmware issue.
Can't detect unit — usually Yamaha / blown Maptuner
Maptuner can't read necessary information from the ECU. Could be a cable issue, wrong cable, bad cable — but frequently the result of a burnt-out Maptuner caused by connecting it to the battery in reverse polarity.
My ski doesn't perform as shown on the website
Usually an environmental or physical issue with the PWC — elevation, water temperature, prop condition, impeller wear, or other mechanical factors can affect real-world results.
Blank screen after selecting a tune during download
Not a real problem. Some tunes — typically custom tunes — don't have a parts requirements list, so the screen shows blank. Proceed past the blank screen normally.
Tune does not have a primary market
Requires manual server intervention. Contact us with the Maptuner Unit ID of the vehicle.
There are no tunes for my VIN
May be the result of an incomplete ECU read when adding the vehicle, or a new firmware version.
Try this first: go to Service → Fault Codes → Read or Delete Fault Codes. After that completes, re-synchronize the Maptuner and try selecting tunes again.
If tunes are still not available, contact us with the Maptuner Unit ID.

I just tuned my 2016/2017 Sea-Doo 300 and the ski is completely dead
You may have forgotten to remove the two iBR fuses, causing the ECU to wipe. Put the unit into recovery mode and contact us immediately.
